Remeber the Rap Attack . . .

John Rivas passed away this past week. His title, Mr. Magic will forever be apart of the sound that helped shape hip hop into a big deal.

Why is he important? Once upon a time, hip hop was not in the radio. There was no internet and the new street phenomenon was outlawed by the mainstream. It truly was a different style of music. It was miss understood and not played for everyone to hear. It was street. What happened? Well Mr. Magic and others took the sound outside the street and gave it format. Outsiders paraded the sound and then money and pride changed the music.

Where are we now? Hip hop is still fairly young but it seems to be old. There has been a huge separation from the days of block parties. So besides a few hip hop quotable's some of rap's most important figures have been lost as the music has become more broad. So if we are to remember the Alamo, we must remember the Rap Attack.
