Where's the Beef?

The Headline reads . . . white cheerleader imitates black man. There are many questions and many people have put there 2 cents in but its simple as this, historical context cannot be ignored when people do this. The way she painted her skin did not make the costume look any more authentic. She (perhaps by accident, no knowing any history) did "Black face" which will always be remembered as racist.

Was it any less of a big deal when Dave Chappelle did " white face" on his show the Chappelle show?

For you to say that what Dave Chappelle did is not racist in any sense would be a huge mishap. Dave Chappelle gets away with this because he is 'the court jester,' and with his role as the 'funnyman' he is able to do whatever he wants so long as it is funny. He is not serious and only pokes fun at historical context behind what happened.

From now on, we should acknowledge that there is history behind everything we do. Understood? Look is it hard to believe that what we do is influenced somehow and someway. Now, the Dallas cheerleader may have not done her costume in order to say look at me do "black face" for my costume. She still did it and we as a "collective" remember the ordeal as racist.

"We" (society, "America," the people) always forget to mention how racist and inaccurate our history is. Until the evolution of media, accounts of information was written and scribed. we could only trust our writer to tell us the truth just as we do now with news. Now with mass and more accurate forms of media we get to become first hand witnesses to the world. We are only limited to what isn't seen in the camera lens.

Native Americans have it bad. Not only were their people almost completely wiped out and their traditions ridiculed by modern racist media, but their culture is placed on display for the masses. How much of a joke are they? Sports teams name themselves after them and white culture will not give up being racist so that they may make a point. We wiped you out, and now here is our memory of you. Get over it.

So as you eat your dinner this Thursday just remember what your doing. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, for many reasons.

  1. i agree with your point of view, it is truely absurd that people think it is acceptable to engage in black face and such. especially people in the public eye (that is not to say it is any less inflammatory for others to engage in). it is ridiculous that native americans have become commodities for the mainstream to indulge their stereotypes while consuming beer and watchin & cheering for people on Television whom most of these white people would not make eye contact with on the street-- these Rush Limbaugh type sports fans who feel inclined to impose their racist, bigoted agenda on the populace, yet intend to portray their racial tolerance thru an undying appreciation for fuckin sports teams? i guess we fucked up, to concerned wit shit like the super bowl, gay marriage, and abortion to keep an eye on our elected officials and how they are spending our money. i agree wit u, however to call chappelle a court jester is to serverly undermine the political implications of his "comedy" which act to draw attention to the internal racism within the conscious audience members genius concept which unfortunately is "carry on luggage" as far as the remaining entertained, "perspective deficient" audience is concerned. -james
